Square Appointments vs Bookora: 2026 comparison

Square Appointments is available in eight countries, the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, Japan, France and Spain, because it is tied to Square's card processing. Outside them you cannot open an account. Bookora is sold on the App Store and Google Play worldwide and does not depend on a payment system: reminders go out by email and Telegram, and the client pays you directly.

If you work in one of the eight countries, the comparison below is a fair one; if not, geography has made the choice.

Square Appointments is free for one location: online booking, unlimited staff, SMS and email reminders, deposits. The Plus plan at $49 a month per location adds Google Calendar, stock, shifts, commissions and permissions. Card processing is 3.3% + 30¢ per online payment on the free plan and 2.9% + 30¢ on Plus. There is no new-client fee.

Bookora sells a subscription and nothing on top of it: no commission, no paid add-ons. Premium costs $9.99 a month, $23.99 for three months (≈ $8 a month) or $59.99 a year (≈ $5 a month) and includes two seats, for you and a colleague. A team of 5 pays $39.99 a month for a pack, a team of 10 pays $69.99, a team of 20 pays $119.99. There is no commission on bookings or on clients. Without a subscription, Bookora is a calendar with a client base for one person: you can keep appointments by hand, but online booking, automatic reminders, Google Calendar and team seats open only in Premium.

The upshot: for free online booking Square wins. For Google Calendar, stock and permissions Square asks $49 a month; Bookora gives Google Calendar in Premium at $9.99, and stock and personal prices at no extra charge.

In Bookora the booking page is a Premium feature. A client gets your link on WhatsApp or from your Instagram bio, picks a service, a day and a time, and leaves a name and a phone number. No app, no account. The request lands in your calendar and you accept or decline it. You set how far ahead booking is open (1 to 90 days), how much notice you need before a visit, the slot step (15 to 180 minutes), and a "next to existing appointments" mode that packs the day tightly, with no empty hours between clients. The client sees a link to your cancellation policy before confirming.

Square's online booking is free and handles deposits; in the US it is joined by Square Go, a client app on iOS where people find salons. If deposits against no-shows are a must for you, Square is stronger here.

What Bookora lacks: automatic confirmation of requests (you confirm each one), branding of the booking page, client-side rescheduling and deposits.

On any plan Bookora drafts the message and opens WhatsApp with the text and the client's number: one tap, and you pay nothing for the message. On Premium, email and Telegram reminders go out by themselves: when an appointment is created, changed or cancelled, and 24 hours before the visit. This works in any country with Telegram and email and does not depend on local carriers.

Square sends SMS and email on all plans, the free one included, in the countries where it operates. Telegram is not among its channels. If clients expect SMS, that is a plus for Square; if they live in Telegram and WhatsApp, a plus for Bookora.

In Bookora a team is seats. The owner invites staff with a one-time code or creates accounts for them; each has their own calendar, clients, services and booking link. On the shared booking page the client picks a specialist and lands in that person's calendar. The owner sees each team member's schedule and stats, and sets booking rules, reminder channels and message templates once for everyone.

Square does not charge for staff: the free plan puts no limit on their number, and you pay per location. Shifts, commission calculation and permission sets are on Plus and in the web dashboard. A Bookora owner pays for seats but sets everything up from the phone.

Bookora counts revenue, expected revenue from upcoming appointments, expenses, your most frequent clients and services, the share of repeat visits and calendar occupancy, on the phone and at no extra charge. Consumables are tracked in millilitres, grams and units and tied to services with a usage rate; after each appointment the app calculates the write-off, you confirm the numbers and see a low-stock threshold. Personal prices are included too: give a client a percentage discount or remember their price for a service.

Square's stock and advanced reports are on Plus at $49; a discount can be given to a group of clients, but a price cannot be remembered for one particular client.

Bookora's interface comes in 9 languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Japanese and Chinese, switchable right in the settings. Currency, 12- or 24-hour time and the first day of the week are yours to set. A client in another country sees your free slots in their own time zone, and on the confirmation in yours too, so an online consultant never has to convert hours. Google Calendar syncs both ways in Premium.

Square Appointments comes in 5 languages. Google Calendar is import and export, on Plus only. Some settings, namely sync, shifts, permissions and commissions, live in the web dashboard rather than the app.
